2003-2006 Sprinter Van Fuel Filter Installation and Help page

I am replacing the fuel filter on my 2003-20064 OM647 T1N and was wondering what the Fuel filter part is? It is a two port filter and there appears to be a sensor mounted to the thing.

Thanks for reaching out—and great to hear you’re diving into T1N maintenance!

For your 2004 OM647 T1N with a two-port fuel filter and sensor mount, both the Wix and Mann filters on the site do have provisions for the sensor. That bracket you see on top is designed to hold the water-in-fuel sensor (or temperature sensor, depending on configuration). However, the Wix filter is explicitly built with a threaded sensor port, which is why it’s more expensive—it offers a cleaner, more secure fit for the sensor. The Mann version may still accommodate the sensor via the bracket but might require a workaround or modification, depending on your sensor’s design.

If this is your first time replacing it and you want a no-hassle fit, the Wix is the safer bet. But if you’re comfortable checking the thread and making sure everything seals tight, the Mann can work and save you a few bucks.

Regarding the fuel lines:
The return line (the one going back to the tank) often degrades over time and starts leaking at the connection point. While there are OEM-specific molded lines available, for most DIYers, a quality fuel-rated hose (rated for diesel, 5/16” or 8mm inner diameter) cut to length works just fine. Just make sure to use fuel injection clamps instead of standard worm gear clamps—they seal better and don’t cut into the hose.

Let me know if you’d like part numbers or a kit recommendation. Happy to help as you get more familiar with the T1N—it’s a great platform once you get to know it.

Best,
Richard
